ABOUT PASHA PEARLS TYPES

The Classification of Pearls

The most important thing and the first thing you should understand about the classification of pearls is that each brand or company has its own system, so you should not take it into account to compare pearls from different companies. Each company dedicated to the sale of pearls creates its own system since there is no standardized system.

When buying pearls in the wholesale market, professionals can choose from a huge range of qualities. Depending on the requirement and the target price of each buyer, the perceived quality of each pearl may vary. What is AAA quality to one buyer may be A or AA quality to another simply because the latter are dealing with more expensive pearls of a higher rank. Pearls of the best quality for one buyer may not even meet the minimum quality of another buyer.

In addition to a different level of demand, the classification method can also vary. Some brands use the A-AAA system, others A-AAAAA, others use numbers and others, words.

When choosing which brand or company to buy pearls from, experience, reputation and knowledge are more important than the grade they have assigned to a specific product. Once you have chosen the brand or company, you can use the classification to decide which pearls to buy.

At Pasha Pearls we are very demanding with the quality of our pearls, so we are convinced that any of our pearls will far exceed your expectations.

  • Classification of Freshwater Pearls: Freshwater Pearls offer the widest range of sizes, shapes, colors and surface qualities. Freshwater Pearls are typically found in lakes and rivers in China. In recent years, the quality of Freshwater pearls has drastically improved and has resulted in beautiful pearls that are cleaner, rounder, and lustrous.

  • Sorting of Akoya Pearls: The classic pearl par excellence. Characteristics such as brightness and shape greatly determine its quality. Akoya pearls are often very round and spherical in shape and complemented by very high luster and found off the seas of Japan and China.

  • Tahitian Pearl grading: Tahitian Pearls have a strict grading standard set by the French Polynesian government. Tahitian pearls consist of hundreds of overtones with incredibly exotic colors such as peacock green, silver green, blue, and eggplant.

  • Sorting of South Sea Pearls: South Sea pearls are classified in much the same way as Tahitian cultured pearls. South Sea pearls are cherished for their classic color as well as their exceptional sizes typically ranging from 7mm to 12mm for most jewelry.
